Mark Twain began a private journal in 1855 at age twenty, and kept at it until shortly before he died in 1910. In and 1894 entry, he wrote:
“If you tell the truth you don’t have to remember anything.”
I’m not sure if Twain was writing this as a reminder to himself or as a piece of advice he intended to deliver in the future. No matter what his plan, it’s a helpful warning about the dangers of deception and a reminder about one major benefit of truth telling.
“If you don’t like something, change it.
If you can’t change it, change your attitude.
Don’t complain.” -Maya Angelou
“It it is not right, don’t do it;
if it is not true, don’t say it.” -Marcus Aurelius
Aurelius, the most philosophical of all Roman emperors, wrote this in a private journal nearly 2,000 years ago. More recently, the science fiction writer Ray Bradbury echoed the sentiment: “If you don’t like what you’re doing, don’t do it.” A similar recommendation also appears in an ancient Chinese proverb: “If you don’t want anyone to know it, don’t do it.”
Good morning to you all and enjoy every moment today and make someone smile today, it is all worth it and they might really need it. Keep making BIG things happen.
Love ya all,
sysr
so very true
I remember when I was 12 moving in with my grandparents after my parents got divorced. My grandpa told me don’t lie, don’t cheat, don’t steal. If you want my last dollar just ask me for it. It sure is a beautiful day to make someone smile.
“if you don’t like something change it” so are you saying if I don’t like the truth i can change it?? 🙂
I have always lived by the saying ” “If you tell the truth you don’t have to remember anything.”
I don’t have the time or the extra brain power to get caught up in telling a lie. I try to use my time for
something that will make my life better. And I try not to have friends that tell lies, How do you know
they are really your friend, they could be lying about that too.
Thanks for the smile! I’ll pay it forward.
