Power Up Against Teen Homelessness event to aid over 300 students in need

Rallying volunteers to provide essential resources for over 300 students in need, Young Powersports and the Young Caring for Our Young Foundation will host their Power Up Against Teen Homelessness event on Oct. 7 at 6 p.m.

“This initiative plays a critical role in fighting one of the most significant problems in our communities,” said Kellee Belnap, executive director of the Young Caring for Our Young Foundation. “We’re thankful for this opportunity to support the work of incredible organizations like the Davis Education Foundation as we deliver necessary items to teen drop-in centers throughout Utah.”

Held in the white glove area of Young Powersports XL Centerville on Frontage Road, the evening will begin with speeches. Following the statements, attendees will be organized into assembly lines, and tasked with placing items such as clothing, sweats, gloves, socks, beanies, blankets and hygiene products into hundreds of backpacks.

Once finished, the packs will be distributed by Young Caring for Our Young to local teen drop-in centers — which provide students in need with access to showers, laundry machines, computers, food and support staff.

“One of the things we look forward to most with any charitable endeavor is engaging with volunteers,” said Jeramie Young, director of Young Powersports. “Apart from being kind-hearted, the people who attend this event are advocates for their communities. Their actions are rooted in an ambition that we share: to better our area. It’s amazing to come together with them for something that we all believe in.”

In addition to Young Automotive Group employees as well as residents, volunteers from other organizations will join Power Up Against Teen Homelessness, including members of Weber State University’s athletics department.

First held in 2021, Young Powersports and the Young Caring for Our Young Foundation began the Power Up initiative by assembling hygiene kits for the Davis Education Foundation. Each of Young Powersports’ eleven locations participate in the event, providing funding as well as items for the backpacks.

“What we love about the Young Powersports team is their willingness to rally together,” said Belnap. “One unique characteristic of the Young Automotive Group is the camaraderie all of our dealerships share. They band together, and it’s what allows us to have the impact that we do.”
