The Principle of Resistance
Good beginning of September to you all. Rejoice in another month.
A little bit of time has transpired since I last shared some of my thoughts with you. I repent of that because I so like to engage my fellow associates in the business world. Here we are, nine months into this 2017 year…. man, how time seems to pass so quickly. I want to say; August looks like the best month of the year for our YAG group and THANK YOU for setting more records in our business!
Let me, if I may, touch on a principle that is needed by each one of us even though it is not comfortable.
The principle of resistance; Now this principle applies in all areas of our lives including relationships, health, religion, emotional and of course Business and the job you are currently doing. Some of you go to the GYM and lift weights and why do you do that… to get stronger. When you push, lift or strain against a heavier object you build up strength. The weights are whatever goes against the motion of what must grow stronger. When your circumstances are not conducive to what you would like, but you work on it anyway, your strength in that situation or circumstance increases and gets stronger. If a situation is tough at work and you work and struggle to overcome that, you get stronger for the next time it comes around. If you are struggling with a relationship and you work on it, plan it, go through the uncomfortable nature of it, it will improve and you will get stronger at relationships. So… we all need to rejoice in the struggle in anything as we push, lift and strain so that we become stronger. It is human nature to shy away from something giving us resistance or something that is hard or uncomfortable.
A simple example in my own life is……My son Oliver is an avid rock climber. He has asked me several times recently to go climbing with him in the early morning. Now, I, as a human (may be a bit out of shape) may have a fear of not being ready or what steep cliff will he take me up. So, my fear and my own mind create excuses. I need to rejoice in the opportunity and go and do it. I have done it in the past, I know how rewarding it is but our doubts make traitors of ourselves. I will accept the next invitation, even though it is and will be resistance on me but I also know it will become easier as I do it.
Another example, perhaps….is if you fear or are uncomfortable talking with your supervisor or direct report on where you want to go in the company and your job or if you are struggling with a certain part of your job… you could have a weakness that you are uncovering. So, use the principle of resistance and rejoice in the uncomfortable part; set an appointment and talk with him or her, regardless of the uncomfortable nature and fear. In these situations you feel uncomfortable with, you will become stronger as you both work and share struggles together.
We all want you to succeed. We are all in this together as a company to succeed globally, departmentally and individually. So… use the Principle of Resistance in your favor and get stronger in all areas of your life.
Thank you for all you do.
Sincerely,
SYSR
(share with me what you think on this principle)
Thank you so much Spencer! A definite reminder to me to “feel uncomfortable” and grow.
Good stuff, thanks.
Great message Spencer… Thank You.
It reminds me of the saying, “A ship in the harbor is safe…. BUT, that’s not what ships were built for.” Zig Ziglar once said, “We don’t grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges.” It takes “resistance” to grow and move forward. Thank you again for the message.
thank you
Thank you so much, Spencer you have always been an inspiration for us and always so positive

As always, you have words of great wisdom. I thank you for the thought provoking subjects that you share with us. I am a better person than I was 25 years ago when I started working here, and you have helped me be that better person, so thank you Spencer! Keep them coming 🙂
Love the encouragement! I needed the reminder that resistance develops opportunities to grow and do better. As I read the message the a thought of came to mind “you need to give to grow”. Thank you for having such a positive place to work!
Perfecto! -Ty
Great reminder to always pushing and exploring outside of our comfort zones… thanks!
Love the message. So hard to say that in the moment when the resistance is happening but how true it is. The challenges are the biggest opportunities for growth. Now lets go climbing!
This is a great message and reminder.
Thank you,
Great way to start the day by reading this thank you!
Spencer,
As always thank you for the words of wisdom and encouragement. I too feel the more resistance we are faced with will prepare us for bigger and better opportunities in our lives. Just as hard work is a key formula to success, dealing with resistance and challenges through hard work, determination and receiving help from others can help not only us individually but also those around us.
This is a great article! I love this: “our doubts make traitors of ourselves”. I once read “doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” I love how you put all of this together, doubt, resistance, growth. I look forward to the continuous opportunity of growth in YAG!
