During my morning study and reading time I came across an interesting thought I would like to share with you. Not a new thought but an important thought to remember none the less.
“The law of Impermanence“
The fact that everything, without exception, is always changing, that things will not, cannot stay the same forever.
In the present moment, we can also recognize that our awareness is already free—-even in tough times, sad times, depressed times, hellish times—awareness gives us the freedom to choose how to respond inwardly to our circumstances, even if our outer circumstances are beyond our control.
Viktor Frankl put it this way in his book, Man’s Search for Meaning, describing his experience in a Nazi concentration camp: “Everything can be taken from a human being but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”
Things change, Life changes, business changes, jobs change, economies change, families change, philosophies change, religions change, politics changes and they can change slowly or in an instant. But you have a very real thing that can never be taken from you and that is your choice of your attitude and to choose your own way regarding these things.
It is so exciting to see Spring coming even though I love winter. Business is good, lots of great and exciting things are happening in the Young Automotive Group and like I mentioned a week or so ago…..I smell a huge good business environment coming upon us. Spencer, As you so eloquently pointed out, the one constant in life is change. How we respond to changes in our personal and professional lives shapes us and refines our character, good or bad. As one of the “senior” (old) members of Yag, I feel like I can take liberty in sharing this thought. We are all blessed with what I believe to be free agency or the freedom to make our own choices, that is how we learn and grow. No one is perfect, we will all make mistakes, but learn and grow from those mistakes. Be happy, be kind, and help those around you in your life personally and professionally know of their significance and importance. Have an outstanding day.
Having a happy heart and a positive attitude is contagious, and it creates a positive ripple in the world around you. I’m a huge believer in seeing the good in situations and people, and I’m convinced that you find what you look for. If you look for the goodness and kindness in those around you, that’s what you’ll find. They will generallly be good and kind in their dealings with you and others, which is really powerful! Conversely, if you expect people to unkind or negative, or to be disappointing in their interactions with you, your expectations will be met.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Spencer, and for caring about all of us so much. Your attitude and kind heart helps all of us DO BETTER and BE BETTER!
I have been with YAG for almost 24 years now, and I have seen many changes over the years! One thing I can count on though is that the basic structure of our group never changes, the honesty, integrity and compassion that makes YAG the greatest place to work. I appreciate having that environment to work in everyday. Yes there is always change but some things are constant.
Love the viktor frankel reference. I am reading a great book that also talks about choice and it says we think of choice as a noun or something fixed but it really is an action. Choosing is an action that we can use or forget. Many times we forget to take the action of choosing and eventually someone else makes the choice for you. great post thanks for it.
